  • We Are Here To Support You In Your Ministry In Your Home

As a community at Faith and in faith, we support one another as we all fulfill the Baptismal promise to raise our kids and youth to be disciples of Jesus Christ.

    Deuteronomy 6: 5-9:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates”.

FAQ-Social Media Safety

What are the concerns with contemporary social media?

While social media is usually approached for mundane purposes such as connecting with friends, as with all things there are those who choose to use it for the wrong reasons and to spread things/content that we do not wish our children and teens to interact with. Social media used appropriately can be an outlet that allows us to connect, communicate, and spread information quickly. However, as with all social media it has its downsides. Content is one. Through filters, apps, and through settings we can mitigate most inappropriate content that our children can view on social media, but not all. Further, the same can be said for who our children interact with. Below are some “best practices” for your teen and their use of social media.

How do I protect my child/teen from unwanted content on social media?

Education and communication. Be informed as to how to properly setup social media filters and settings so that most content you decide is inappropriate for you teen is unavailable. That being said, there is no 100% effective means to preventing our teens from viewing unwanted content, so education is very important.

Communicate to your teen that what they take in is important. Are they God-honoring in what they view and take in?

How do I protect my teen from interacting with unknown people?

This is the crux of all social media use. There is no definitive way to block every unwanted interaction for our teen. So here are some helpful tools you can use.

1.) Talk to your teen about the dangers of talking to strangers ( I know this is a talk that we all heard in elementary school, but it is now much different in social media today). It is vitally important to educate our teens to only engage with people they know already in “real” life. If they are unsure, then they shouldn’t interact with them.

2.) Encourage your teen to only “friend”, “follow”, or interact with people that you already know.

3.) Have open conversations about their social media interactions, you want your teen to be encouraged to be open about social media use, not to withdraw.

4.) Set limits, have a social media time-out after a certain time of the evening or limit daily use by using the built-in settings on their device. This way they know they only have so much time on social media.

What social media does the youth ministry at Faith use?

The youth ministry at Faith Lutheran Church uses several social media platforms to communicate to parents and teens. Honestly, we would miss quite a bit if we did not use these tools. So take heart that the below listed social media platforms are used by the church, but more importantly are personally moderated by myself or someone else on staff at FLC.

-Facebook: Faith Lutheran Church Albuquerque

-Instagram: Faithabqchurch

-Discord (uses servers, there are currently three all moderated by myself with each user being personally verified by myself:
