Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Drawing from Israel's memory of the exodus of their ancestors from Egypt, John the Baptist announces that Jesus is the Lamb of God sent by God. The Hebrew people remembered the blood of the lambs which was placed on their doorposts when death passed over them. The blood of Jesus now sets us free from the power of sin and death.
